The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI), is one of the most prestigious credentials for project managers. However, PMP certification is not a lifetime achievement—it needs to be renewed every three years. To maintain the PMP certification, professionals must demonstrate their commitment to ongoing learning and development in project management.   1. Earn Professional Development Units (PDUs)
    To renew the PMP certification, you must earn a total of 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) within the three-year certification cycle.     • Working as a Professional (Maximum 8 PDUs): These PDUs can be earned by applying your project management skills in real-world scenarios. This might include leading or participating in project management activities in your job role.
  2. Log Your PDUs in the PMI CCRS Portal
    Once you have accumulated the necessary PDUs, you need to log them into the PMI Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS). This online portal allows you to track and submit your PDUs for review. It’s essential to accurately categorize and document each PDU activity.
  3. Complete the PMP Renewal Application
    After logging your PDUs in the CCRS system, the next step is to complete the PMP renewal application. The application requires you to confirm that you have met all the renewal requirements and have accumulated the necessary PDUs. You will also need to confirm that you adhere to PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
  4. Pay the Renewal Fee
    To finalize the renewal process, you must pay the PMP renewal fee. PMI offers a discount on the renewal fee for members. As of now, the fee for members is $60, while for non-members, it is $150. Payment can be made online through the PMI website.
  5. Submit Your Application
    After completing the renewal application and paying the fee, you can submit your application through the CCRS portal. PMI will review your application, and if everything is in order, they will approve your PMP certification renewal.
  6. Receive Your Renewed PMP Certification
    Once your application is approved, you will receive an updated PMP certification that remains valid for another three years. You can download the renewed certification from the PMI website.
